Music service
The Music Service was established in 2000 and with the introduction of government’s Standards Fund Grant for Music.
Starting in the classroom the Music Service provides support for school improvement through Wider Opportunities Programme, curriculum support and teacher training within schools. Singing is central to all programmes and activities within the Local Authority. This has enabled the service to build a strong foundation from which instrumental provision has developed. The Music Service works collaboratively with professional partners and schools to raise the enjoyment and achievement of all children and young people. Partners include, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), Federation of Music Services (FMS), Sing Up, National Foundation of Youth Music and BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers.
After School Music Centres (ASMC)
The Music Service offers a range of instrumental tuition based at four beginner after school centres. Tuition is available to children from year 3 and above attending a state Local Authority school.
Saturday Music Centre (SMC)
This centre accommodates learning for intermediate and advanced players. Players are transferred from an After School Music Centre to SMC to continue their musical development. Latymer Upper School is the host venue for Saturday Music Centre.
Local Authority Choirs and Orchestras
The Music Service provides a Children’s Choir, Youth Choir, Children’s Orchestra and Youth Orchestra and Steel Pans FREE OF CHARGE. Latymer Upper School is the host venue for almost all our Local Authority Music Activities.
