LSCB - Voluntary sector information
Contribution of the voluntary sector to the safeguarding agenda:
The voluntary and community sector has a vital role to play in the work of the Local Safeguarding Children Board. Voluntary and community agencies, as well as faith organisations, are often the first point of contact for local families, children and young people needing help and support. The voluntary sector, therefore, is extremely well-placed to make early assessments of need, make early interventions and undertake preventative work. Voluntary organisations are also able to play an advocacy role, enabling and supporting families and children to access and understand statutory services.

Involvement of the voluntary sector in the LSCB:
Safeguarding children is everyone's business and the voluntary sector plays a key role in spreading this message. Faith and community groups are particularly well-placed to cascade information about children's welfare and safety and promote good practice throughout local communities and, therefore, the LSCB is seeking to engage these community groups through its new Equalities and Faith Communities Subgroup.
A number of voluntary organisations, including the Domestic Violence Forum, CAVSA (the Community and Voluntary Sector Association), Standing Together Against Domestic Violence, and the Peabody Trust, are already involved as LSCB Operational Group members or in driving forward the board's agenda through the LSCB subgroups.
