Grounds Maintenance

Grass cutting, flower and shrub bed maintenance, path sweeping and clearing of litter are all part of the Grounds Maintenance service in the boroughs parks and open spaces and are operational seven days a week.

Spring and summer bedding are provided for the parks and open spaces and for any other department within the Council who has agreed a contract for the supply and maintenance of flower beds.  Quotes are available on request for any restoration necessary at sites including laying turf, ordering and planting flowers/shrubs and re-seeding grass areas. For a quote, email us

The 30 football pitches in the Borough at Hurlingham, South Park and Wormwood Scrubs are also maintained as well as the 7 x 5 a-side pitches on Lillie Road Rec which are used by local teams aged 7-14. We also look after artificial pitches and cricket and bowling greens.

TreesFor the purposes of grounds maintenance, the borough is split into two areas; North and South. With a Horticultural Manager responsible for the service.

During the grass-growing season approximately April – October up to 27 extra seasonal staff are employed on a temporary basis.

A large proportion the Grounds Maintenance permanent staff hold (or are studying for) the RHS General Certificate or advanced certificate in horticulture or NVQ in horticulture or groundsmanship. There is currently an open programme for NVQ assessments available to all Grounds Maintenance staff with an external college for formal training in gardening, groundsmanship, NVQ’s and specific training ( chainsaws or spraying certificates).
