Education support for looked after children
This specialist team supports the education of children who are in the care of Hammersmith & Fulham's services for children.
There are three teachers in the team who work to:
- provide a more coherent approach to the specific educational needs of children in care
- offer a responsive support service for children in care by working with schools, the local education authority and Children's Trust.
The teachers working in the team have a thorough knowledge of both the care system and education procedures. They offer training and support to teachers and social workers to ensure the successful implementation of national guidance on educational support for children in care. They also collect data to help identify and monitor children and young people in need of educational support.
The team provides individual support to children, young people, carers, social workers or schools according to need. There is no charge for using this service.
