The council’s equalities team, Equal, aims to help local businesses to update and improve their policies and practices so that they can offer real diversity and equal opportunities in the workplace.

Equal provides reguarly updated information on good practice in equality and diversity.

It has prepared an equalities checklist - a free self-assessment enabling employers to look at their HR policies and procedures and to analyse whether they need to improve their systems.
